The Snow Lay on the Ground(unknown) circa late 1800sThe author of this traditional Christmas carol is not known. Written in 6/8 time, it is played in this version using a syncopated accompaniment, making it different from the 6/8 jigs and giving it more of a Caribbean feel. This carol was probably written in the nineteenth century. Its pleasant folk lyrics and English or Irish folk melody is somewhat popular in churches today. The Latin phrase “venite adoremus Dominum”, also used in O Come All Ye Faithful, translates as “come let us adore the Lord.” Kevin Sanders, April, 2009
